Q: Why did you decide to pursue law as a career?
A: I have always been passionate about pursuing justice and empowering the people who don’t know their rights. I knew that pursuing a career in law would help me impact change on a greater scale and make a difference in the lives of many people.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your career?
A: The most rewarding part of being an attorney is resolving issues for my clients. I am a problem-solver and feel rewarded when I help my clients solve their problems. My clients entrust me with their matters and I take pride in my work.
Q: What types of IRS collection matters do you have experience helping clients with?
A: I work with clients to secure no-change letters in IRS audits, lower overall tax liability, and obtain penalty and interest abatements. I have secured affordable installment agreements and granted offers in compromise for my clients through strategic negotiation and/or appeals. A few of my experience areas also include:
- Delinquent taxes
- Innocent Spousal Requests
- Tax Court litigation
- Foreign bank account reporting matters
Q: In which jurisdictions are you certified to practice law?
A: I am admitted to practice in the Florida State Courts, U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and the United States Tax Court. In matters before the IRS and the U.S. Tax Court, I can represent clients in all 50 states and foreign countries.
Q: Tell me about being honored by Legal Services Greater Miami for your pro bono work.
A: This recognition means so much to me because I whole-heartedly enjoy pro bono work. I care greatly for the underprivileged in my community because I believe everyone should have access to legal advice and because I was raised in the same community. I am humbled by the opportunity to help my neighbors and the community that helped raise me.
Q: What community organizations are you involved in?
A: I keep very busy. I am involved in Dominican American Bar Association (Board Member), South Florida Tax Litigation Association, Hispanic National Bar Association, Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association, Tax Section of the Florida Bar (2019-2020 Fellow), Florida Association for Women Lawyers (Health and Wellness Committee Past Co-Chair), Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, Doral Chamber of Commerce, Greater Kendall Business Association, and Coral Gables Rotary Club. I also co-founded Women In Tax, an organization formed to bring together women who practice law in the area of tax.
Q: What are your personal interests and hobbies outside of the office?
A: I love animals, boxing, dancing, traveling, and laughing. I also love to cook. I am growing my own food in my backyard because I am very passionate about my health. I want to educate others on the positive and negative effects of the foods we consume.
